Core Duties
- Plan and deliver engaging Global Politics lessons that build critical thinking, analytical writing, political understanding, and global awareness.
- Teach political systems, power, human rights, development, global interactions, international relations, and contemporary world issues through inquiry‑based learning.
- Use real‑world case studies, current affairs, source material, debate, discussion, and technology to make lessons relevant and intellectually challenging.
- Create an inclusive classroom environment where students can discuss complex issues respectfully and evaluate different viewpoints with maturity.
- Differentiate teaching strategies for EAL students, gifted learners, and students who require additional learning support.
- Assess student work through formative and summative methods, using progress data to plan targeted support and academic extension.
- Support students in research, essay writing, argument development, evidence evaluation, source analysis, and reflective thinking.
- Collaborate with IB Diploma Programme colleagues to strengthen concept‑driven curriculum planning, assessment consistency, and student learning pathways.
- Encourage students to become informed communicators, independent thinkers, and globally responsible learners.
- Contribute to Model United Nations, co‑curricular activities, enrichment programmes, community initiatives, and wider school events.
- Build positive relationships with parents and the school community to support student wellbeing, motivation, and academic success.
- Engage in ongoing professional learning, reflective practice, and collaborative improvement to enhance teaching quality.
- Promote GEMS values and the IB Learner Profile through classroom practice, student interaction, and school contribution.
Ideal Profile
- Recognised teaching qualification at degree level such as B.Ed, PGCE, PGDE, or equivalent in Humanities, Social Sciences, Politics, International Relations, or a related subject.
- Minimum 3 years of successful secondary humanities teaching experience.
- Experience teaching IB Diploma Global Politics is preferred but not essential.
- Strong understanding of international relations, political theory, current global issues, human rights, development, and global governance.
- Confident in delivering inquiry‑based, discussion‑led, and concept‑driven lessons.
- Passion for developing informed, analytical, reflective, and globally aware students.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, organisation, and classroom management skills.
- Ability to support a diverse international student body with different academic, cultural, and language backgrounds.
- Strong assessment and feedback practice with the ability to improve student writing, research, and source evaluation skills.
