Role Context

The English Teacher will help students develop confident communication, analytical reading, academic writing, interpretation, and independent thinking through purposeful Secondary English instruction. Working within an internationally minded learning environment, the teacher will adapt lessons for varied abilities while supporting the principles of inquiry, reflection, and student agency associated with IB education. The position also contributes to curriculum development, assessment quality, pastoral support, and the broader academic culture of the school.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver stimulating Secondary English lessons that encourage inquiry, discussion, critical analysis, creativity, and a genuine interest in literature and language.
  • Design learning experiences that develop reading comprehension, written communication, vocabulary, interpretation, research, and presentation capabilities.
  • Differentiate classroom instruction for diverse learners, including EAL students, gifted learners, and students requiring additional academic support.
  • Use assessment evidence and student performance data to identify learning gaps and adjust teaching strategies accordingly.
  • Track academic progress carefully and provide constructive feedback that helps students understand how to improve their work.
  • Integrate educational technology and appropriate digital resources into lessons to strengthen participation and independent learning.
  • Collaborate with teaching colleagues on IB-aligned curriculum planning, interdisciplinary learning, assessment design, and resource development.
  • Support MYP and DP learning expectations where assigned, maintaining appropriate academic standards and assessment practices.
  • Establish an inclusive classroom culture where students feel confident contributing ideas, questioning assumptions, and developing their individual strengths.
  • Communicate student achievement, development, and areas requiring attention clearly to parents and relevant school teams.
  • Participate actively in co-curricular programmes, school events, community activities, and initiatives extending learning beyond the classroom.
  • Engage in professional development, collaborative reflection, and educational research to continually strengthen classroom practice.
Ideal Profile

Applicants should hold a recognised degree-level professional teaching qualification such as a B.Ed, PGCE, PGDE, or equivalent qualification with an English specialism. A minimum of 3 years of proven Secondary English teaching experience is required. Previous employment within an IB curriculum school and experience teaching MYP and DP are preferred, although strong candidates from other recognised international curricula may also be considered. The successful educator will bring strong subject knowledge alongside the ability to make English relevant and intellectually engaging for an international student population. Confidence in differentiated instruction, assessment, educational technology, and collaborative curriculum planning will be important. The position particularly suits a teacher who enjoys professional learning, contributes beyond scheduled classroom lessons, and wants to develop within a progressive international education community.
