Job summary

GEMS Royal Dubai School, part of GEMS Education, seeks a dynamic Geography teacher to join a growing secondary phase. You will deliver engaging lessons aligned with NCfE, inspire curiosity about the world and support students across GCSE and future pathways.

The successful candidate will bring a recognised teaching qualification and Geography degree, strong classroom practice, and a collaborative mindset to help develop the department and contribute to the school community.

Qualifications

• A recognised teaching qualification and degree in Geography or a closely related subject.
• Experience teaching Geography at secondary level, including GCSE Geography, and ability to grow a department.
• Proven track record of securing strong student outcomes.
• Excellent classroom practice, behaviour management and communication skills.
• Ambition, adaptability and collaborative mindset to contribute to a growing secondary school.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging Geography lessons aligned with the NCfE, developing students' understanding of physical and human geography and geographical enquiry.
• Set high expectations for achievement, behaviour and participation in an inclusive learning environment.
• Use assessment to provide feedback, track progress and intervene promptly.
• Develop Geography curriculum planning, resources, assessment and moderation, including fieldwork opportunities.
• Build strong relationships with students, colleagues and families and communicate progress clearly.
• Contribute to wider school life through pastoral responsibilities, enrichment and community events.
• Engage in professional learning, coaching, appraisal and quality assurance.
• Promote and safeguard students' welfare following school policies.

Job Purpose

To deliver consistently excellent geography teaching that inspires curiosity about the world, develops students’ understanding of physical and human processes, and secures strong progress for every student. The postholder will contribute to the development of geography across the growing secondary phase and uphold the values, standards and wider strategic vision of GEMS Royal Dubai School.

Key Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

• Plan and deliver consistently excellent, engaging geography lessons aligned with the NCfE, using strong subject knowledge and effective pedagogy to develop students’ understanding of physical and human geography, geographical enquiry, fieldwork, data interpretation and critical thinking, in an international context.
• Set high expectations for achievement, behaviour and participation, creating a safe, inclusive and purposeful learning environment in which every student can succeed.
• Use assessment effectively to adapt teaching, provide meaningful feedback, track progress and implement timely intervention.
• Develop geography curriculum planning, resourcing, assessment and moderation, including fieldwork opportunities and preparation for future GCSE Geography and post‑16 pathways as the secondary phase grows.
• Build strong relationships with students, colleagues and families, working collaboratively and communicating progress clearly.
• Contribute actively to the wider life and culture of the school through pastoral responsibilities, enrichment, extra‑curricular activities and community events.
• Demonstrate a reflective, solution‑focused High‑Performance mindset and engage fully in professional learning, coaching, appraisal and quality assurance.
• Promote and safeguard students’ welfare and personal development, following all school policies, procedures and reporting requirements.
• Undertake any other reasonable duties consistent with the role, as directed by the principal.
