GEMS Royal Dubai School is seeking a dynamic English teacher to deliver high-quality lessons to students from FS1 to Year 9, with expansion to Year 10 in 2027. Qualifications

  • Recognised teaching qualification and degree in English or related subject.
  • Strong knowledge of the NCfE; experience teaching GCSE English Language and English Literature.
  • Proven record of securing strong student outcomes.
  • Excellent classroom practice, behaviour management and communication skills.
  • Ambition, adaptability and collaborative mindset to contribute to a growing secondary school.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging English lessons aligned with NCfE; develop reading, writing, speaking, listening and analysis.
  • Set high expectations for achievement, behaviour and participation.
  • Use assessment to tailor teaching, provide feedback, track progress and intervene when needed.
  • Contribute to English curriculum planning, resourcing, and GCSE preparation.
  • Build strong relationships with students, colleagues and families; communicate progress.
  • Contribute to wider school life through pastoral duties and enrichment activities.
  • Demonstrate reflective, high-performance mindset; engage in professional learning and quality assurance.
  • Promote and safeguard students’ welfare following school policies.
  • Undertake any other duties as directed by the principal.

Job Purpose

To deliver consistently excellent English teaching that inspires a love of language and literature, develops confident readers, writers and communicators, and secures strong progress for every student. The postholder will contribute to the development of English across the growing secondary phase and uphold the values, standards and wider strategic vision of GEMS Royal Dubai School.

Key Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
  • Plan and deliver consistently excellent, engaging English lessons aligned with the NCfE, using strong subject knowledge and effective pedagogy to develop reading, writing, speaking, listening and critical analysis.
  • Set high expectations for achievement, behaviour and participation, creating a safe, inclusive and purposeful learning environment in which every student can succeed.
  • Use assessment effectively to adapt teaching, provide meaningful feedback, track progress and implement timely intervention.
  • Contribute to English curriculum planning, resourcing, moderation and preparation for future GCSE English Language and English Literature pathways as the secondary phase grows.
  • Build strong relationships with students, colleagues and families, working collaboratively and communicating progress clearly.
  • Contribute actively to the wider life and culture of the school through pastoral responsibilities, enrichment, extra-curricular activities and community events.
  • Demonstrate a reflective, solution-focused High-Performance mindset and engage fully in professional learning, coaching, appraisal and quality assurance.
  • Promote and safeguard students’ welfare and personal development, following all school policies, procedures and reporting requirements.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties consistent with the role, as directed by the principal.
The successful candidate will have:
  • A recognised teaching qualification and degree in English, English Literature or a closely related subject.
  • Strong knowledge of the NCfE and experience of teaching GCSE English Language and English Literature
  • A proven record of securing strong student outcomes
  • Excellent classroom practice, behaviour management and communication skills.
  • The ambition, adaptability and collaborative mindset required to contribute to a growing secondary school.
