Overview
Electrical Design Engineer - Infrastructure in Abu Dhabi Emirate, United Arab Emirates is a Civil Engineering opportunity for an experienced electrical engineering professional who can deliver design calculations, technical drawings, specifications, tender evaluations, and construction documents for major infrastructure and utility projects. This role is suited for an engineer with strong knowledge of LV, MV, HV networks, substations, pump stations, treatment plants, standby power systems, protection and control schemes, international standards, and regional utility authority requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform electrical design calculations and technical analyses for low voltage, medium voltage, and high voltage distribution networks.
- Prepare design inputs for substations, pump stations, water treatment plants, wastewater treatment plants, industrial plant electrification, standby power systems, and 33kV primary substations.
- Develop protection and control design information using applicable engineering formulas, technical standards, project criteria, and practical design experience.
- Prepare general arrangements, layouts, plans, single line diagrams, protection diagrams, schematic diagrams, and supporting electrical design documents.
- Research technical options, compare design alternatives, and prepare design documents that support efficient and compliant project delivery.
- Contribute to value engineering studies by identifying practical technical improvements, cost‑effective design options, and performance‑based solutions.
- Review drawings and extract engineering information from CAD files to support calculations, coordination, and technical documentation.
- Prepare engineering computations, design reports, estimates, surveys, technical notes, and design packages for infrastructure projects.
- Interface regularly with other engineering disciplines and project departments to coordinate electrical design with civil, mechanical, structural, utilities, process, and digital design requirements.
- Review shop drawings, supplier drawings, material submittals, technical submissions, and contractor documentation for compliance with project requirements.
- Prepare and issue specifications, data sheets, construction documents, and technical schedules required for procurement and site execution.
- Perform technical tender analyses and prepare tender evaluation reports for electrical systems, equipment, and related packages.
- Provide technical guidance to CAD designers, drafters, junior engineers, and project team members working on the same assignments.
- Apply quality management system requirements to electrical design work, reviews, deliverables, and project documentation.
- Use CAD and electrical engineering software to improve design accuracy, coordination, analysis, and production efficiency.
- Support local utility coordination by considering authority requirements, technical specifications, and regional design practices during design development.
Ideal Profile
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized major university.
- Minimum 5 years of related regional experience with progressively increasing responsibility in electrical design.
- Professional Engineer registration may be required depending on project or client requirements.
- Strong understanding of international design practices and standards including IEC, BS, and ANSI.
- Experience designing LV, MV, HV, substations, pump stations, treatment plants, industrial electrification, standby power, protection, and control systems.
- Proficiency in CAD and electrical design software such as ETAP, PSSSincal, CYME, Amtech, Trimble, AGI32, Dialux, AutoCAD3D, and Revit.
- Strong AutoCAD capability with the ability to work confidently with technical drawings and design documentation.
- Ability to implement quality management system requirements effectively across project design activities.
- Good spoken and written English is essential.
- Experience working on projects with local utility companies such as ADDC, TAQA, TRANSCO, DEWA, or FEWA is preferred.
- Strong familiarity with utility authority specifications, approval expectations, and technical systems is an advantage.
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from a major university is preferred.
