Role Context

The Electrical Engineer will support the planning and design of dry utilities that enable large infrastructure and urban development projects to function safely and reliably. The position covers electrical distribution, telecommunications networks, utility corridors, and roadway lighting, requiring careful coordination between authority requirements, masterplans, detailed engineering, and the physical constraints created by other infrastructure systems. The engineer will contribute throughout the design lifecycle, from early concept and corridor planning through detailed calculations, drawings, reports, and IFC documentation. Effective delivery depends on balancing technical requirements with road geometry, wet utilities, landscape works, buildings, transportation systems, and utility authority standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop dry utility designs from concept masterplan stage through detailed and IFC documentation.
  • Plan electrical infrastructure requirements for major urban, transportation, and infrastructure developments.
  • Apply Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Saudi Arabia authority guidelines to electrical and telecommunications design.
  • Review project requirements against relevant utility authority standards and approval criteria.
  • Develop primary substation requirements in coordination with demand, network configuration, and site constraints.
  • Plan EHV, HV, and LV utility corridors within infrastructure rights of way.
  • Design and coordinate HV networks up to 33kV where required by project scope.
  • Develop LV distribution network layouts and associated electrical infrastructure.
  • Coordinate distribution substations and pocket substations within masterplans and detailed designs.
  • Develop feeder pillar and service turret requirements for applicable infrastructure packages.
  • Prepare electrical load calculations and supporting engineering analysis.
  • Develop single line diagrams for electrical distribution systems.
  • Prepare load schedules and associated technical documentation.
  • Assess utility routing requirements while maintaining appropriate separation and clearance from other services.
  • Coordinate dry utility corridors with roads, wet utilities, drainage, transportation, landscape, and building disciplines.
  • Identify utility clashes and support practical resolution during multidisciplinary design development.
  • Participate in infrastructure coordination workshops and technical design reviews.
  • Prepare engineering reports explaining electrical design criteria, assumptions, calculations, and proposed solutions.
  • Develop telecommunications infrastructure networks including duct routes and manhole arrangements.
  • Coordinate telecom infrastructure requirements with masterplanning and road corridor constraints.
  • Apply practical knowledge of GSM tower coverage requirements when planning telecommunications infrastructure.
  • Support identification of suitable locations and infrastructure provisions for telecommunications facilities.
  • Design street lighting systems for different road classifications and rights of way.
  • Perform lighting calculations to verify illumination performance and compliance.
  • Prepare street lighting single line diagrams and electrical load schedules.
  • Develop branch wiring arrangements for landscape and associated external lighting.
  • Coordinate lighting pole positions with roads, utilities, landscape elements, visibility requirements, and site constraints.
  • Review technical drawings and ensure design information is coordinated before formal issue.
  • Maintain consistency between calculations, reports, drawings, schedules, and specifications.
  • Support authority submissions and respond to technical comments during review cycles.
  • Incorporate authority requirements and approved comments into subsequent design stages.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineers to maintain integrated infrastructure design.
  • Identify technical risks affecting dry utility implementation and recommend suitable engineering solutions.
  • Ensure electrical infrastructure designs reflect constructability, operational access, and future maintenance considerations.
  • Support project teams in resolving utility conflicts encountered during design development.
  • Maintain accurate technical records and design documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
