Job Purpose

The Division Chief of Regional Surveillance and Research leads the development of regional economic surveillance and policy research to support financial stability and sustainable growth across AMF member states. This role ensures robust macroeconomic analysis, timely identification of risks, and the formulation of evidence-based policy recommendations.

Key Accountability Areas and Activities

The key activities include, but are not limited to, the following :

  • Oversee comprehensive regional economic surveillance to identify key trends, risks, and opportunities affecting member states.
  • Analyze macroeconomic indicators, fiscal and monetary policies, and global economic developments to assess their impact on regional economies.
  • Formulate evidence-based policy recommendations to strengthen macroeconomic stability and foster sustainable development.
  • Lead the design and execution of regional economic research projects, using advanced modelling and forecasting tools to support strategic policy planning.
  • Utilize advanced economic models and forecasting tools to assess economic scenarios and inform decision-making.
  • Prepare policy papers and analytical reports to support evidence-based policymaking.
  • Collaborate with central banks, ministries of finance, and regional economic institutions to enhance policy coordination and knowledge exchange.
  • Organize and participate in high-level policy dialogues, research forums, and technical workshops to foster economic policy discussions.
  • Coordinate technical assistance programs, joint research initiatives, and policy dialogues to strengthen surveillance capabilities among member states.
  • Identify and assess financial and economic vulnerabilities within the region to support risk mitigation strategies.
  • Advise member states on policy responses to economic shocks, fiscal imbalances, and financial stability risks.
  • Provide insights and strategic recommendations to senior leadership on emerging economic trends and policy implications.
  • Lead and develop the research team to deliver high-quality surveillance outputs, foster innovation, and enhance institutional research capabilities.
  • Collaborate with the HR Division to attract, develop, and retain top talent, ensuring the team possesses the necessary expertise to address regional economic challenges.
  • Set clear performance goals, conduct regular evaluations, and provide constructive feedback to enhance the team's analytical capabilities and research output.
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture that promotes innovation, data-driven decision-making, and continuous professional development.
  • Cultivate an inclusive and knowledge-sharing environment to enhance regional economic research efforts and policy impact.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in economic research, regional surveillance, policy advisory, or macroeconomic analysis within a reputable institution, preferably in financial, economic, or government sectors
  • Proven expertise in conducting economic surveillance, risk assessments, and policy evaluations for regional economies
  • Strong background in analysing macroeconomic trends, financial sector stability, and economic policy impacts across different regions.
  • A Master’s degree (or equivalent) in economics, public policy, finance, or a related field is required.
  • Professional certification in economic research, policy analysis, or financial risk assessment is preferred.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills in Arabic and English. French, as a third language, is a solid advantage
