Role Context

The Consultant - Plastic Microvascular Surgery will provide advanced surgical expertise for patients requiring complex reconstruction after cancer surgery, trauma, congenital conditions, tissue loss, or functional impairment. The role demands strong microsurgical skill, careful pre-operative planning, precise intraoperative technique, and structured post-operative follow-up. The consultant will work closely with oncology, orthopedics, ENT, trauma, vascular surgery, anesthesia, nursing, and rehabilitation teams to restore form, function, and quality of life for patients with complex reconstructive needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform complex microvascular and reconstructive surgical procedures using advanced plastic surgery techniques and evidence-based clinical practice.
• Manage patients requiring breast reconstruction, head and neck reconstruction, limb reconstruction, trauma reconstruction, soft tissue coverage, and microsurgical flap procedures.
• Conduct detailed pre-operative assessments, review clinical history, evaluate imaging and diagnostic findings, and develop safe individualized surgical plans.
• Provide post-operative follow-up care, monitor wound healing, manage complications, and guide recovery planning in coordination with multidisciplinary teams.
• Perform reconstructive procedures aimed at restoring tissue integrity, function, appearance, mobility, and long-term patient wellbeing.
• Collaborate with oncologists, orthopedic surgeons, ENT surgeons, trauma teams, vascular surgeons, anesthesiologists, physiotherapists, nurses, and allied healthcare professionals.
• Support multidisciplinary case discussions for complex reconstruction cases requiring coordinated clinical planning.
• Maintain accurate medical records, operative reports, consent documentation, treatment plans, and follow-up notes in line with DHA requirements and hospital policies.
• Ensure compliance with clinical governance, surgical safety standards, infection control protocols, and quality assurance procedures.
• Participate in departmental quality improvement activity, surgical audits, teaching sessions, case reviews, and continuing professional development.
• Provide expert patient counselling regarding surgical options, risks, recovery expectations, functional outcomes, and long-term follow-up needs.

Ideal Profile

• Medical degree from a recognized institution.
• Specialist or Consultant qualification in Plastic Surgery.
• Fellowship or equivalent certification in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
• Extensive experience in microvascular surgery, reconstructive surgery, microsurgical flap procedures, and complex tissue reconstruction.
• Eligibility for DHA Consultant licensure in Plastic Surgery.
• Strong surgical background in breast, head and neck, limb, trauma, and soft tissue reconstruction.
• Ability to manage complex reconstructive cases from initial assessment through surgery, recovery, and long-term follow-up.
