Qualifications

• Medical degree from a recognized institution.
• Specialist or Consultant qualification in Plastic Surgery.

• Extensive experience in Microvascular and Reconstructive Surgery.
• Valid UAE license or DHA licensure eligibility.
• Proven ability in complex microsurgical reconstruction.

Responsibilities

• Perform complex microvascular and reconstructive surgical procedures at consultant level.
• Undertake free tissue transfer and microsurgical reconstruction where clinically indicated.
• Manage patients requiring breast reconstruction following oncological surgery.
• Provide head and neck reconstruction for post‑tumor resection or trauma cases.
• Perform limb reconstruction for traumatic or oncological defects.
• Conduct comprehensive pre‑operative assessments and patient counselling.

Role Context The Consultant - Plastic and Microvascular Surgery will provide advanced reconstructive surgical care for patients with complex tissue defects resulting from cancer treatment, trauma, congenital conditions, or previous surgery. The role requires precise microsurgical technique, careful operative planning, and close collaboration with oncology, orthopedics, ENT, trauma, vascular, and other specialist teams. The consultant will help restore form and function while maintaining high standards of surgical safety, patient counselling, and long-term follow-up.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform complex microvascular and reconstructive surgical procedures at consultant level.
• Undertake free tissue transfer and microsurgical reconstruction where clinically indicated.
• Manage patients requiring breast reconstruction following oncological surgery or other major tissue loss.
• Provide head and neck reconstruction for patients following tumor resection, trauma, or complex surgical defects.
• Perform limb reconstruction for traumatic, oncological, or other major soft tissue and structural defects.
• Treat patients requiring reconstruction after severe injury, burns, tissue loss, or previous unsuccessful procedures.
• Conduct comprehensive pre-operative assessments including surgical risk evaluation, reconstructive planning, and patient counselling.
• Develop individualized surgical strategies based on defect size, tissue requirements, vascular anatomy, functional goals, and expected outcomes.
• Coordinate care with surgical oncology, ENT, orthopedics, vascular surgery, anesthesia, radiology, nursing, and rehabilitation teams.
• Provide detailed post-operative monitoring and manage flap viability, wound healing, infection risk, and other surgical complications.
• Maintain accurate operative notes, consent records, clinical documentation, treatment plans, and follow-up information.
• Participate in multidisciplinary case discussions for complex reconstructive patients.
• Follow recognized clinical governance, infection control, surgical safety, and quality standards.
• Contribute to departmental audits, quality improvement initiatives, service development, and outcome reviews.
• Support education, mentoring, and supervision of junior surgeons, residents, and clinical staff.
• Participate in continuing medical education and maintain current knowledge of advances in microsurgical and reconstructive techniques.
