The role is suited for a consultant who can diagnose and manage advanced ophthalmic and oculoplastic conditions while delivering patient‑centered care aligned with international clinical standards.
Role Context
The Consultant - Oculoplastic Surgery will provide specialized ophthalmology and reconstructive eye care within a leading healthcare facility. While the main hiring location is Dubai, United Arab Emirates, the selected consultant may support reconstructive ophthalmology services in Abu Dhabi. This role includes outpatient and inpatient consultations, advanced oculoplastic procedures, orbital and lacrimal surgery, trauma reconstruction, functional eyelid surgery, multidisciplinary case planning, and long‑term postoperative care.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and manage ophthalmic, periocular, orbital, and eyelid disorders requiring reconstructive or oculoplastic intervention.
- Perform reconstructive ophthalmic surgeries including eyelid reconstruction, functional eyelid procedures, lacrimal surgeries, orbital procedures, and trauma reconstruction.
- Evaluate and manage orbital diseases, eyelid malpositions, periocular tumors, facial trauma, tear drainage disorders, and complex oculoplastic cases.
- Provide comprehensive outpatient and inpatient ophthalmology consultations for patients requiring reconstructive eye care.
- Develop individualized treatment plans based on clinical findings, diagnostic results, surgical needs, and patient expectations.
- Perform pre‑operative assessment, informed consent discussions, surgical planning, and postoperative follow‑up care.
- Collaborate with ENT, maxillofacial surgery, plastic surgery, oncology, radiology, anesthesia, nursing, and multidisciplinary clinical teams.
- Support complex reconstructive case planning for orbital, eyelid, facial, trauma‑related, and tumor‑related conditions.
- Provide patient and family counseling regarding diagnosis, treatment options, surgical procedures, recovery expectations, risks, and long‑term care.
- Maintain accurate medical records, operative notes, consent documentation, treatment plans, diagnostic reports, and follow‑up records.
- Ensure compliance with DOH regulations, hospital policies, patient safety standards, clinical governance requirements, and ethical practice.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, research, audits, case reviews, continuous medical education, and service development activities.
- Support teaching, mentoring, and academic contribution within the ophthalmology department where required.
Ideal Profile
- MBBS or equivalent medical degree recognized by DOH Abu Dhabi.
- Board certification or fellowship in Ophthalmology.
- Subspecialty training in Oculoplastic Surgery, Reconstructive Ophthalmology, or a closely related ophthalmic reconstructive field.
- Valid DOH Consultant License or Eligibility Letter in Ophthalmology.
- Minimum 5‑7 years of post‑specialist experience in reconstructive ophthalmology and oculoplastic surgery.
- Strong expertise in advanced reconstructive, eyelid, lacrimal, orbital, and periocular surgical procedures.
- Experience managing orbital disease, eyelid malposition, facial trauma, tumors, tear drainage disorders, and complex functional eyelid conditions.
- Previous experience in tertiary eye care, academic medical centers, or advanced ophthalmology units is preferred.
- Exposure to complex orbital and facial reconstructive surgeries is an advantage.
- Research, teaching, audit, or academic experience is preferred.
- Strong communication, counseling, patient management, and multidisciplinary collaboration skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural healthcare environment.
