Job summary

Mandarin Oriental Jumeira, Dubai is seeking a Commis 1 to join the Pastry & Bakery Kitchen. You will wash ingredients, prep mise en place, and assist with buffet setup while maintaining high hygiene and safety standards.

Qualifications

• High School qualification or equivalent.
• Degree or Higher National Diploma in Hospitality/Culinary Arts is preferred.
• A minimum 1 year of culinary experience working as Commis 1 in a Pastry & Bakery is preferred.
• Basic experience in handling and preparing food, including specialty dishes like pizza, is required.
• Ability to work long hours with a strong focus on operational excellence.
• Ability to move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 15 kg without assistance.
• Basic knowledge of the kitchen tools and utensils in order to perform the specific tasks.
• Knowledge of basic food hygiene is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Washes and peels ingredients for production.
• Prepare mise en place to the highest quality per standards.
• Set up and replenish buffets.
• Assist superiors in requisition pickup and storage organization.
• Notify on low stock and ensure daily availability.
• Store ingredients in labeled containers for preservation.
• Clean and sanitize surfaces, tools, and area before/after use.
• Report kitchen maintenance issues to superiors.
