Role Context

The Civil Inspector - Rail Tracks will support freight facility operations by inspecting railway tracks, civil works, and associated infrastructure during construction, testing, and commissioning stages. The position plays an important role in maintaining safe, compliant, and reliable rail infrastructure by checking track alignment, ballast placement, sleepers, rail fastening systems, welding works, drainage, utility crossings, and related construction activities. Through accurate reporting, contractor monitoring, and close coordination with engineers and client representatives, the inspector will help protect operational quality and long-term asset performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect rail and track construction activities to confirm compliance with approved drawings, specifications, project requirements, and quality standards.
  • Monitor the installation of rail tracks, sleepers, ballast, fastening systems, formation layers, and associated civil works.
  • Verify track alignment, gauge, cant, levels, geometry, coordinates, and elevations against approved tolerances and survey data.
  • Inspect earthworks, subgrade preparation, ballast placement, sub-ballast works, concrete works, and formation layers linked to railway infrastructure.
  • Check welding works, rail joints, thermite welding, stress adjustment activities, and related installation procedures.
  • Conduct inspections for track slab construction, reinforcement, embedded items, concrete pouring, and related structural elements where applicable.
  • Review shop drawings, method statements, material submittals, inspection test plans, and project documentation before site execution.
  • Witness field testing activities including compaction tests, concrete tests, rail ultrasonic testing, and track geometry measurements.
  • Confirm that rails, sleepers, ballast, fasteners, concrete materials, and related components are approved and compliant with project specifications.
  • Coordinate with surveyors to verify track coordinates, alignment, levels, and construction accuracy.
  • Monitor contractor daily activities and check that site progress follows approved construction schedules and quality procedures.
  • Raise NCRs, site observations, deficiency reports, and inspection comments when non-compliance or quality concerns are identified.
  • Verify corrective actions and track closure of NCRs, observations, inspection comments, and quality-related issues.
  • Maintain complete QA/QC documentation, daily inspection reports, material records, testing logs, and approved inspection evidence.
  • Coordinate inspection activities with engineers, contractors, subcontractors, surveyors, and client representatives.
  • Monitor HSE compliance during railway construction activities and report unsafe practices or risks promptly.
  • Inspect drainage works, cable troughs, utility crossings, asset protection measures, and associated rail infrastructure works.
  • Support testing, commissioning, handover readiness, and technical coordination for track and rail systems.
Ideal Profile
  • Diploma in Civil Engineering or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum 7 years of professional experience in civil construction inspection.
  • Strong hands‑on experience in rail track works, track installation, freight facilities, metro projects, railway infrastructure, or heavy transportation systems.
  • Proven knowledge of railway construction specifications, approved drawings, inspection test plans, method statements, and site quality procedures.
  • Practical understanding of track alignment, ballast placement, compaction, rail fastening systems, sleepers, rails, sub‑ballast, and concrete works.
  • Experience inspecting welding works, track geometry, material quality, civil structures, drainage works, and related railway components.
  • Ability to prepare inspection reports, material approval records, NCR documentation, testing records, and daily site updates.
  • Strong coordination skills with engineers, contractors, subcontractors, surveyors, and client-side representatives.
  • Excellent written and spoken English for clear reporting, documentation, and site communication.
  • Strong attention to detail with a safety‑focused approach to railway construction and freight facility operations.
