Job summary

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Business Studies or closely related field.
• B.Ed, QTS, PGCE, PGDE or equivalent teaching qualification.
• Proven experience teaching Business Studies across KS3, KS4 and KS5 including BTEC delivery.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver Business Studies across KS3, KS4 and KS5.
• Teach BTEC Business units per programme requirements.
• Develop schemes of work aligned with curriculum objectives.

Role Context

The Business Teacher will deliver Business Studies across multiple secondary phases, including Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, Key Stage 5 and BTEC programmes. The role requires a teacher who can combine strong commercial subject knowledge with effective pedagogy, structured curriculum planning and consistent assessment. The position has a direct impact on student progression by helping learners understand business concepts, apply theory to real‑world contexts and build the analytical, evaluative and decision‑making skills required for examinations, further study and future careers.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver Business Studies lessons across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5.
• Teach BTEC Business units in accordance with relevant programme requirements.
• Develop clear schemes of work and lesson sequences aligned with curriculum objectives.
• Prepare students for internal assessments, coursework requirements and external examinations.
• Teach core business topics including marketing, finance, operations, human resources and enterprise.
• Explain business concepts using practical examples, case studies and current commercial scenarios.
• Help students develop analytical and evaluative skills through structured business problem‑solving.
• Support learners in interpreting financial, market and operational information.
• Develop students ' ability to construct evidence‑based written responses.
• Prepare differentiated learning activities for students with varying levels of attainment.
• Set high academic expectations and encourage students to take responsibility for their progress.
• Evaluate existing curriculum plans and revise course content where improvement is needed.
• Review teaching resources and methods to ensure lessons remain effective and relevant.
• Create assessment materials that accurately measure knowledge, application and higher‑order thinking.
• Mark student work consistently and provide clear developmental feedback.
• Monitor student attainment and identify learners requiring additional intervention.
• Provide targeted support for students preparing for examinations or completing BTEC assignments.
• Track progress using assessment evidence and maintain accurate academic records.
• Use performance information to refine lesson planning and intervention strategies.
• Maintain effective classroom management and positive learning routines.
• Create an environment that encourages discussion, independent thinking and active participation.
• Integrate digital resources and business research tools into classroom learning where appropriate.
• Collaborate with department colleagues on curriculum planning, moderation and resource development.

• Contribute to enrichment activities such as enterprise projects, business competitions or career‑focused events.

Ideal Profile

Candidates should hold a master 's degree in Business Studies or a closely related discipline. Applicants should also hold a B.Ed, QTS, PGCE, PGDE or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification. Proven experience teaching Business Studies across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5 is required. Practical experience teaching BTEC Business is essential. Candidates should demonstrate strong academic subject knowledge and a thorough understanding of Business Studies pedagogy. The successful applicant should be confident planning, evaluating and revising curriculum content. Experience designing course materials and adapting methods of instruction is important. Applicants should demonstrate strong organisation and a consistent professional work ethic. Excellent interpersonal skills are required for effective communication with students, colleagues and parents. The role requires high expectations for student achievement and a commitment to helping all learners progress. Candidates should be capable of balancing examination preparation with broader development of commercial awareness and critical thinking. Applicants who are immediately available will be preferred.
