Responsibilities

Role Context

The Associate HSES Specialist works alongside HSES Specialists and Supervisors to strengthen day-to-day safety performance across field operations. The position combines routine workplace inspections, workforce coaching, equipment observations, incident support, emergency preparedness, and communication of critical safety information. By maintaining a visible presence in operational areas, the specialist helps prevent unsafe behavior and hazardous conditions before they develop into incidents. The role also supports consistent application of HSES requirements across personnel, equipment, workgroups, and site activities, contributing directly to workforce protection and reliable project execution.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide visible HSE leadership to field personnel and reinforce expected standards of safe behavior.
  • Apply current HSES policies, procedures, operating requirements, and relevant regulatory standards during daily activities.
  • Help ensure company HSE policies and procedures are consistently implemented and understood by employees.
  • Conduct regular inspections of work areas to identify unsafe acts, hazardous conditions, and operational deficiencies.
  • Correct immediate safety concerns where practical and elevate unresolved hazards to the appropriate line management.
  • Observe workgroups during operational activities and intervene when unsafe practices are identified.
  • Coach employees on safer methods of performing assigned tasks and reinforce positive HSES behavior.
  • Keep supervisors informed of recurring unsafe acts, significant hazards, and areas requiring corrective action.
  • Support incident investigations by gathering information, documenting findings, and assisting with report preparation.
  • Monitor the maintenance, availability, and inspection status of lifesaving and firefighting equipment.
  • Support emergency response activities and assist with medical evacuation procedures when required.
  • Ensure important HSES communications, performance updates, statistics, alerts, and critical notices reach employees.
  • Maintain safety information on HSES notice boards and reinforce key messages during HSES meetings.
  • Observe the operating condition of cranes, forklifts, and other plant or mobile equipment and report deficiencies to relevant supervisors.
  • Assist supervisors during Toolbox Talks and help ensure safety messages are understood by participating personnel.
  • Maintain awareness of changing site conditions and raise concerns that could affect worker safety or operational control.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of field safety practices by sharing observations and supporting corrective actions.
Ideal Profile

Candidates should hold a Degree or Diploma in a relevant discipline, or possess an equivalent combination of education and practical experience. The role requires approximately 3 years of relevant HSES experience, preferably gained in an industrial, engineering, construction, offshore, fabrication, or energy-related operating environment. Applicants should maintain the core technical competencies associated with the HSES function and understand practical hazard identification, field inspection, incident reporting, emergency response, and workplace safety requirements. Strong written and verbal communication skills are important because the position involves regular interaction with field personnel, supervisors, contractors, and operational teams. Candidates should also be familiar with applicable local and international HSES laws, codes, regulations, standards, and accepted industry practices.
