Role Context
The Assistant Manager - Automation Systems provides technical ownership of automation and control infrastructure supporting critical resort attractions and operational systems. The position combines hands-on troubleshooting with engineering improvement, commissioning support, asset lifecycle planning and team development. Reliable automation performance is essential to maintaining guest-facing attractions, aquatic systems and supporting infrastructure safely while minimizing downtime and avoiding disruption to resort operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain safe and reliable automation systems supporting water rides, attractions, Animal Life Support Systems and associated facilities.
- Diagnose and resolve faults involving PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, instrumentation and electrical control systems.
- Troubleshoot industrial communication networks and identify connectivity or protocol-related failures.
- Develop, modify, test and maintain PLC and HMI programs according to operational requirements.
- Perform software validation following modifications or upgrades.
- Support commissioning activities, Site Acceptance Testing and functional testing of automation systems.
- Provide technical troubleshooting during and after commissioning to stabilize newly installed equipment.
- Analyze electrical drawings, control schematics, I-O lists and network architecture diagrams when investigating system faults.
- Conduct Root Cause Analysis for recurring breakdowns and complex automation failures.
- Maintain detailed technical records covering identified faults, corrective actions and improvement recommendations.
- Develop preventive maintenance strategies for automation and control assets.
- Improve inspection checklists and technical standards to strengthen system reliability.
- Maintain current software backups and ensure appropriate revision history is available.
- Control engineering documentation, fault records and configuration information.
- Review aging or obsolete automation assets and recommend replacement or modernization options.
- Develop retrofit solutions that improve reliability without unnecessary disruption to operating facilities.
- Support CAPEX and OPEX planning for automation upgrades and lifecycle requirements.
- Coordinate with OEMs, suppliers and system integrators on technical problems, modifications and upgrade projects.
- Review vendor recommendations and ensure proposed solutions meet operational requirements.
- Configure and maintain industrial communication networks across automation platforms.
- Manage critical automation spare parts and maintain visibility of essential inventory.
- Identify obsolete or high-risk components and establish suitable replacement strategies.
- Provide technical assistance during major equipment breakdowns and planned shutdown activities.
- Support inspections, audits and certification requirements involving control and automation systems.
- Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Electrical, Mechanical, MEP and ALSS teams.
- Provide technical guidance to technicians and strengthen team competency in automation troubleshooting.
- Share technical knowledge and support structured learning across maintenance teams.
- Identify continuous improvement opportunities that increase availability, reliability and maintainability of automated systems.
- Ensure control system integrity is maintained after software, hardware or network changes.
Ideal Profile
- Bachelor 's Degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Instrumentation, Mechatronics, Automation Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum 10-12 years of hands-on industrial automation and control systems experience.
- Strong practical experience with PLC programming, troubleshooting and commissioning.
- Proven capability diagnosing industrial electrical and control system problems.
- Experience working with critical operational systems where equipment availability and rapid recovery are essential.
- Previous exposure to water rides, amusement attractions, aquatic facilities or Animal Life Support Systems is highly desirable.
- Practical knowledge of Rockwell or Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Schneider or comparable PLC and HMI platforms.
- Experience working with ABB, Siemens, PowerFlex, Danfoss or similar Variable Frequency Drives.
- Understanding of EtherNet-IP, PROFINET, PROFIBUS, Modbus TCP-IP, Modbus RTU, OPC or comparable industrial communication protocols.
- Strong knowledge of MCCs, control panels, instrumentation and electrical distribution systems.
- Able to interpret control schematics, engineering drawings and network layouts accurately.
- Experience developing preventive maintenance and equipment lifecycle strategies.
- Familiarity with critical spare management, retrofit planning and obsolescence control.
- Ability to coordinate effectively with OEMs, suppliers and system integrators.
- Strong technical documentation and Root Cause Analysis capability.
