Job summary

University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD) seeks qualified adjunct tutors to support undergraduate teaching in the School of Engineering for Autumn 2026, starting 21 Sep 2026. Tutors will deliver tutorials and workshops across specified modules in engineering mathematics and statistics, with emphasis on applied learning and student engagement.

Responsibilities include grading, consultation, attendance, and collaboration with coordinators.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree or higher in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics or Data Science.
  • Demonstrated expertise in algebra, trigonometry, differential equations, statistics and data analysis.
  • Ability to teach and support diverse cohorts of undergraduate students.
  • Experience in university tutoring, TA or academic support is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver tutorials and problem-solving workshops.
  • Facilitate learning through applied exercises and guided practice.
  • Support student development of mathematical and analytical reasoning skills.
  • Explain complex quantitative concepts clearly.
  • Assist with assessment, consultation and engagement activities.
  • Collaborate with subject coordinators and staff.
  • Take attendance, mark work, and manage consultation times.
  • Liaise with the coordinator before, during and after the semester.
  • Input grades into SMP and complete subject reports.
  • Manage acquisition of necessary supplies.
  • Experience with innovative teaching approaches is desirable.

Support Future Engineers Through Mathematics and Applied Analytics

The University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD) is seeking qualified and engaging Adjunct Tutors to support undergraduate teaching within the School of Engineering for Autumn 2026 starting from 21 Sep 2026.

We are building a pool of adjunct tutors to deliver tutorials, workshops, and academic support in the following subjects:

Available Subjects

  • MATH042 – Elements of Engineering Mathematics
  • STAT040 – Introduction to Statistics
  • MATH291 – Differential Equations

These subjects provide essential mathematical and analytical foundations for students progressing through Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, and related disciplines.

About the Subjects

Elements of Engineering Mathematics (MATH042)

Students develop core mathematical skills required for engineering studies, including algebra, functions, trigonometry, limits, and introductory calculus concepts.

Introduction to Statistics (STAT040)

Students learn fundamental statistical concepts, data visualisation, probability, business applications of statistics, and introductory data science using tools such as Excel and Orange.

Differential Equations (MATH291)

Students explore advanced engineering mathematics topics, including multivariable differentiation, multiple integration, Laplace transforms, Fourier series, and engineering applications of differential equations.

Key Teaching Responsibilities

Adjunct Tutors will:

  • Deliver tutorials and problem-solving workshops
  • Facilitate student learning through applied exercises and guided practice
  • Support students in developing mathematical and analytical reasoning skills
  • Explain complex quantitative concepts in a clear and accessible manner
  • Assist with assessment support, consultation, and student engagement activities
  • Work collaboratively with subject coordinators and academic staff
  • The candidate is expected to work in accordance with the course curriculum and teaching plans, as well as take attendance and be involved in marking.
  • Offer consultation times to students outside of classroom hours
  • Liaise with subject coordinator before, during and at the end of the semester session
  • Complete grading of student work in a timely fashion, using clear rubrics, and with constructive feedback-
  • Input the grades into the student interface software (SMP), and complete subject report for the end of semester (training will be provided)-
  • Manage the acquisition of necessary supplies
  • Experience in using innovative approaches to teaching is also desirable.
Selection criteria – Qualifications, Education, Experience, Knowledge and Skills

We are seeking candidates who combine strong disciplinary knowledge with a genuine passion for teaching and student success.

  • Master's degree or higher in one of the following areas:
  • Mathematics
  • Applied Mathematics
  • Statistics
  • Data Science
  • Demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following areas:
  • Algebra and Trigonometry
  • Differential Equations
  • Statistics and Probability
  • Data Analysis
  • Quantitative Methods
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to teach and support diverse cohorts of undergraduate students
  • Previous university tutoring, teaching assistant, lecturer, or academic support experience
  • Experience teaching engineering or foundation mathematics
  • Industry experience involving quantitative analysis, engineering, modelling, or data analytics
  • Familiarity with MATLAB, Excel, Python, Orange Data Mining, or related analytical tools
  • The successful candidate will enjoy interaction with a professional dynamic team of highly respected educators from more than 50 different countries and exposure to students from over 100 nationalities.

The University offers adjunct lecturers at undergraduate level a compensation of AED 6,000 per tutorial per trimester. This covers teaching, grading and providing subject consultation for students. The University is located in Knowledge Park, Dubai and has excellent teaching, learning and research facilities as well as a Library that meets international standards.

Eligibility Notice: Adjunct appointments do not include visa sponsorship. Applicants must hold a valid UAE residency visa and be legally eligible to undertake part-time employment in the UAE.
