Job summary

The University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD) is seeking experienced engineers, laboratory specialists, researchers, and technical professionals to join the School of Engineering as Adjunct Laboratory Engineers. We are building a pool of professionals to support undergraduate laboratory teaching across civil, mechanical, electrical, and related engineering disciplines.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Laboratory Teaching Support: Prepare and set up experiments; assist during classes; provide guidance and troubleshooting.
  • Laboratory Operations: Maintain equipment, ensure safety, manage inventory and documentation.
  • Student & Academic Support: Help students with experimentation, data collection, and analysis; support final-year projects and investigations.

About the Role

The University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD) is seeking experienced engineers, laboratory specialists, researchers, and technical professionals to join the School of Engineering as Adjunct Laboratory Engineers.

We are building a pool of talented professionals to support undergraduate laboratory teaching across a range of engineering disciplines including:

Civil Engineering

Mechanical Engineering

Electrical Engineering

Mechatronics Engineering

Computer & Communications Engineering

Physics and Engineering Fundamentals

Manufacturing & Materials Engineering

These appointments are ideal for professionals who wish to combine industry practice with higher education and contribute to the development of future engineers through practical, hands‑on learning experiences.

Adjunct Laboratory Engineers play a critical role in delivering the practical components of engineering education. Working alongside academic staff, you will support laboratory sessions, demonstrations, experiments, and project‑based learning activities while ensuring safe and effective operation of laboratory facilities.

Key Responsibilities

Laboratory Teaching Support

Prepare and set up laboratory experiments and demonstrations.

Support students during laboratory classes and practical sessions.

Provide technical guidance and troubleshooting assistance.

Assist with assessment, practical reports, and project activities where required.

Laboratory Operations

Maintain laboratory equipment, instrumentation, and technical resources.

Ensure laboratories are safe, organised, and operational.

Support calibration, inventory management, and procurement activities.

Maintain laboratory documentation, records, and operating procedures.

Student & Academic Support

Assist students with experimentation, data collection, and analysis.

Support final-year projects, prototypes, and engineering investigations.

Collaborate with academic staff to enhance laboratory experiences and practical learning outcomes.

Selection criteria – Qualifications, Education, Experience, Knowledge and Skills

We are interested in candidates who bring both technical expertise and a passion for engineering education.

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Applied Physics, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline

Practical experience in laboratory, technical, testing, research, or engineering environments

Strong technical troubleshooting and problem‑solving capability

Ability to support students in practical and laboratory settings

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree or higher in a relevant discipline

Professional engineering registration or certification

Experience working in higher education, research laboratories, testing facilities, or industrial technical environments

Experience operating specialist laboratory equipment relevant to your discipline

Experience with engineering software, simulation tools, instrumentation, or data acquisition systems

The successful candidate will enjoy interaction with a professional dynamic team of highly respected educators from more than 50 different countries and exposure to students from over 100 nationalities.

The University offers adjunct lecturers at undergraduate level a compensation of AED 5,000 per lab/workshop per trimester. This covers teaching, grading and providing subject consultation for students. The University is located in Knowledge Park, Dubai and has excellent teaching, learning and research facilities as well as a Library that meets international standards.

Eligibility Notice: Adjunct appointments do not include visa sponsorship. Applicants must hold a valid UAE residency visa and be legally eligible to undertake part‑time employment in the UAE.
