Job summary
A leading engineering firm in South Africa is seeking a Civil Engineer with experience in geotechnical engineering. The role involves surveillance of tailings storage facilities, conducting audits, and designing associated infrastructure. Candidates should have a degree in Civil Engineering and proficiency in relevant software tools. Good communication skills and attention to detail are essential for this position.
Qualifications
- 1-3 years of relevant experience.
- Good fundamental understanding of soil mechanics.
- Postgraduate experience in geotechnical engineering is advantageous.
- Experience in CPTu testing and interpretation preferred.
- Experience in geotechnical investigations considered advantageous.
Responsibilities
- Surveillance of tailings storage facilities and return water dams.
- Conduct annual audit inspections on storage facilities.
- Design new tailings storage facilities and associated infrastructure.
- Perform stability analysis of various facilities.
- Stay updated on latest developments in the tailings industry.

- B Eng or BSc Eng in Civil Engineering
- Good fundamental understanding and knowledge of soil mechanics

- Candidate should be proficient in MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook and MS PowerPoint
- Candidate should have exposure to slope stability, seepage analysis and FEM software, such as Geostudio.
- Candidate should be proficient in AutoCad Civil 3D or ModelMaker
- Surveillance of tailings storage facilities and return water dams
- Carrying out annual audit inspections on tailings storage facilities and return water dams
- Design of new tailings storage facilities, return water dams or associated infrastructure
- Stability analysis of various facilities
- Keep up with latest developments in the tailings industry and improve knowledge base
- Good critical thinking
- Good communication skills, fluent in English
- Attention to detail
