Job summary
A healthcare facility in George is seeking a Registered / Enrolled Nurse or Phlebotomist to perform blood draws and specimen collection. Responsibilities include conducting patient counselling, ensuring compliance with health protocols, and maintaining accurate records. Candidates should have at least 1-2 years of experience in nursing or phlebotomy and possess essential skills in patient care and safety protocols. This is a vital role to support patient diagnostics and care within a collaborative medical team.
Qualifications
- Minimum 1 - 2 years’ experience after nursing or phlebotomy qualification.
Responsibilities
- Perform blood and specimen collecting procedures according to standards.
- Conduct pre-and post-test counselling for patients and families.
- Identify and report risks to ensure patient safety.
- Perform administrative tasks for accurate patient information processing.
- Ensure accurate recording and charging of utilized stock.
- Collaborate with the multi-disciplinary team in the EC Unit.
Skills
Education
To draw blood, or other samples / specimens, from patients for various testing purposes in accordance with professional standards and regulatory requirements.
- Perform a variety of routine and complex blood and specimen collecting procedures in line with professional standards and regulatory requirements to ensure safe patient care
- Conduct pre-and post-test counselling to patients and family members, to explain blood draw procedures and answer any questions about the process
- Identify, prevent and report risks to ensure patient safety and follow all health and safety protocols and procedures to maintain a sterile work area
- Perform administrative tasks to ensure correct and accurate recording and processing of patient and clinical information
- Ensure that all utilised stock is accurately recorded and charged
- Build and maintain collaborative working relationships, as part of the multi-disciplinary team within the EC Unit
Registered / Enrolled Nurse, orCertificate in Phlebotomy Techniques
- At least 1 - 2 years’ experience after nursing / phlebotomy qualification
- Relevant statutory and regulatory requirements, clinical policies and procedures
- Patient assessment skills
- Patient counselling skills
- Risk identification
- Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) protocols
- Health and Safety principles
- Patient experience principles and related best practice
- Basic life support trained
- Computer Literacy (Microsoft Office)
