The role involves supervising staff, coordinating repairs, ensuring safety standards, and maintaining comprehensive records for heavy vehicles and trailers. Diesel mechanic qualification and supervisory experience are preferred.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Qetello Holdings is recruiting on behalf of our client for an experienced Assistant Workshop Manager/Workshop Supervisor – Trucks & Trailers to support the management of workshop and fleet maintenance operations.

The successful candidate will assist with the daily coordination of the workshop, supervise workshop staff, oversee vehicle maintenance and repairs, manage breakdowns and ensure that fleet maintenance is completed efficiently, safely and to the required standards.

This opportunity is suited to a hands-on professional with a Diesel Mechanic qualification and experience working with heavy vehicles and/or trailers.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Workshop & Fleet Operations

• Assist with the daily management and coordination of the workshop.
• Allocate work to mechanics, technicians and workshop assistants.
• Monitor vehicle repairs, servicing and preventative maintenance.
• Prioritise urgent repairs and breakdowns.
• Monitor workshop turnaround times and minimise vehicle downtime.
• Inspect completed work before vehicles are released.
• Ensure services and inspections are completed according to required standards.
• Investigate reported vehicle defects and ensure corrective action is taken.
• Identify recurring mechanical issues and recommend solutions.
• Maintain accurate vehicle maintenance and service records.

Team Supervision

• Supervise and provide guidance to workshop staff.
• Allocate duties according to skills, workload and operational requirements.
• Monitor attendance, productivity and performance.
• Ensure staff follow company procedures and safe working practices.
• Promote teamwork, accountability and professional conduct.

Health, Safety & Compliance

• Ensure workshop activities comply with health and safety requirements.
• Monitor safe working practices and correct use of PPE.
• Report and assist with investigating accidents, incidents and unsafe conditions.
• Ensure vehicles meet applicable roadworthiness and safety requirements.
• Maintain a clean, organised and safe workshop environment.

Administration & Reporting

• Complete and maintain accurate job cards and workshop records.
• Track vehicle downtime and maintenance turnaround times.
• Maintain records of servicing, repairs, inspections and breakdowns.
• Provide management with updates regarding workshop performance and fleet availability.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Grade 12 / Matric.
• Qualified Diesel Mechanic.
• Previous supervisory or management experience within a workshop environment.
• Experience working with heavy vehicles and/or trailers.
• Strong knowledge of vehicle maintenance and repairs.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a high-pressure environment.
• Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities.
