Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an experienced Well Site Geologist to join their operations team in the Stellenbosch region. This on-site role provides real-time geological support during drilling operations, logging formations, collecting and describing samples, and relaying subsurface information to the drilling crew.

The ideal candidate holds a Geology or Earth Sciences degree, with at least four years of experience in a well-site or similar oil & gas role, and can work safely on site near

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Well Site Geologist to join their operations team in the Stellenbosch region. This on-site role is crucial for real-time geological support during drilling operations. You will be responsible for logging formations, collecting and analyzing geological samples, and communicating critical subsurface information to the drilling team. This position offers the opportunity to work directly at the operational forefront of the Oil & Gas industry, ensuring the geological integrity and success of drilling campaigns. The ideal candidate is proactive, observant, and possesses strong geological knowledge applicable to wellsite operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Log and describe geological formations encountered during drilling operations.
• Collect, label, and prepare rock and fluid samples for laboratory analysis.
• Monitor drilling parameters for geological implications and advise the drilling supervisor on formation tops and potential hazards.
• Perform basic geochemical and petrographic analyses at the well site.
• Maintain accurate geological records and prepare daily geological reports.

Requirements

• Degree in Geology or Earth Sciences.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience as a Well Site Geologist or in a similar geological role within the oil and gas industry .
• Proficiency in lithological logging, sample description, and basic geological interpretation.
• Familiarity with drilling operations and well site safety protocols.
• Strong observational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a demanding, on-site environment near Stellenbosch .
