Job summary

Placements24 is sourcing a Process Design Engineer for Randburg, Gauteng. You will design water and wastewater treatment systems, perform mass/energy balances, and develop PFDs and P&IDs for municipal and industrial clients.

The role includes pilot studies, design reports, and collaboration with civil, mechanical and electrical teams. You will leverage 5+ years of experience in water treatment, proficiency with BioWin/AqWise, and knowledge of membrane technologies.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or Environmental Engineering.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in process design for water and wastewater.
Proficiency in process simulation software such as BioWin or AqWise.
Strong understanding of physical, chemical and biological water treatment processes.
Experience with membrane technologies (RO, UF, MF) is advantageous.
Familiarity with industry codes and standards (e.g., SANS).
Excellent technical writing and communication skills.

Responsibilities

Develop process flow diagrams (PFDs) and piping & instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) for water treatment plants.
Perform mass and energy balances, equipment sizing, and process calculations.
Select appropriate treatment technologies and equipment.
Conduct treatability studies and pilot plant trials to validate designs.
Prepare process design packages including reports, specs and operating manuals.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure integrated design solutions.
Provide technical support during construction and commissioning phases.
Ensure designs comply with environmental regulations and client requirements.
Conduct site visits for data collection and project execution.
Mentor junior engineers and contribute to knowledge sharing.
