First Recruitment Group is seeking a Principal Civil Design Engineer to lead the design of critical water infrastructure projects in the UK. The role offers contract or permanent opportunities, with a focus on technical leadership and delivering safe, cost-effective solutions.

You will guide multidisciplinary teams, review designs, mentor engineers, and support bids, while maintaining governance and quality standards within the water sector.

Qualifications

• Degree-qualified civil engineer with UK water/wastewater experience.
• Significant UK water industry experience and knowledge of standards.
• CEng status and ability to act as design reviewer or signatory.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate complex civil engineering designs within the water sector.
• Provide technical leadership across multidisciplinary project teams.
• Develop innovative, practical and risk-balanced engineering solutions.
• Ensure designs are safe, compliant, buildable and cost-effective.
• Produce, review and approve design calculations, specifications, drawings and documentation.
• Support project bids and successful project delivery.
• Mentor and develop engineers across the business.
• Promote continuous improvement and engineering excellence.
