Placements24 is seeking a Chemical Engineer to manage operations at a wastewater treatment facility in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga. You will monitor plant performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement process improvements to ensure compliant, efficient treatment of municipal wastewater.

The role requires knowledge of water chemistry, biological treatment, and regulatory standards, with 2–4 years’ experience. You will lead operators and technicians, ensuring safety and reliable equipment performance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
• 2-4 years of experience in wastewater treatment plant operations or a related environmental engineering role.
• Strong knowledge of water/wastewater chemistry and biological treatment processes.
• Familiarity with environmental regulations and discharge standards.
• Experience with laboratory analysis and data interpretation.
• Good problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Proficiency in data management and reporting software.
• Certification as a wastewater operator is a significant advantage.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the daily operations of the wastewater treatment plant, ensuring optimal performance of all treatment units.
• Monitor KPIs and water quality parameters to ensure compliance with discharge permits.
• Troubleshoot operational issues and implement corrective actions.
• Manage the chemical dosing and sludge treatment processes.
• Perform laboratory analyses and interpret results to guide process adjustments.
• Develop and implement process optimization strategies to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
• Ensure adherence to environmental, health, and safety regulations.
• Prepare operational reports, including data analysis and recommendations.
• Collaborate with maintenance teams to ensure equipment reliability.
• Supervise and train plant operators and technicians.
