Job summary

Placements24 seeks a Chemical Engineer near Mahikeng to lead design, implementation and optimisation of water and wastewater treatment for industrial and municipal clients. The role requires strong knowledge of water chemistry, coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, filtration and disinfection, plus the ability to manage projects, report findings, and ensure compliance with environmental permits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or Environmental Engineering.
• Minimum of 5 years in water and wastewater treatment design/operation.
• Strong knowledge of coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, filtration and disinfection.
• Familiarity with environmental regulations related to water quality and discharge.
• Experience with process simulation software is a plus.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving and project management skills.

Responsibilities

• Design and engineer water and wastewater treatment systems, including chemical, physical, and biological processes.
• Perform feasibility studies and pilot testing for new treatment technologies.
• Optimize existing treatment processes to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
• Select appropriate chemical reagents and dosage strategies for water treatment applications.
• Troubleshoot operational issues and recommend solutions.
• Prepare process design documents, P&IDs and equipment specifications.
• Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and permits.
• Collaborate with project managers, site personnel, and clients for successful project delivery.
• Conduct site assessments and data gathering for design and optimisation.
• Stay updated on emerging technologies and best practices in water treatment.
