Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a diligent Telecommunications Technician to join our field operations team in George. You will install, maintain, and repair telecom equipment and infrastructure at customer sites and within our network, delivering reliable services with a hands-on, customer-focused approach.

The role requires 2+ years’ telecoms experience, NTC 3 or equivalent, and proficiency with FTTH/ADSL/VDSL, TCP/IP, and network schematics. A company vehicle and ongoing training are provided.

Qualifications

• NTC 3 or equivalent in Electrical Engineering or Telecommunications.
• Minimum 2 years’ hands-on telecoms field experience.
• Experience with ADSL, VDSL, FTTH and TCP/IP is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Install, commissioning and maintenance of telecoms equipment (fiber, routers, modems, Wi‑Fi).
• Diagnose and resolve faults reported by customers or network monitoring systems.
• Perform routine maintenance and upgrades for optimal network performance.
• Follow safety regulations and company procedures on-site.
• Provide first-line technical support and explain issues clearly to customers.
• Document all work in the service management system (surveys, installations, repairs).

About the Role

Our client is seeking a diligent and technically skilled Telecommunications Technician to join their field operations team based in George . You will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of telecommunications equipment and infrastructure at customer sites and within our network. This role is critical for ensuring the smooth delivery of our services, requiring a hands-on approach and a commitment to customer satisfaction within the scenic Western Cape region. You will work independently and as part of a team, tackling diverse technical challenges in the rapidly evolving telecoms landscape .

Key Responsibilities

• Install, commission, and maintain telecommunications equipment, including fiber optic cabling, routers, modems, and Wi-Fi devices.
• Diagnose and resolve technical faults reported by customers or detected through network monitoring systems.
• Perform routine maintenance checks and system upgrades to ensure optimal network performance and reliability.
• Adhere to all safety regulations and company procedures during site visits and installations.
• Provide first-line technical support to customers, explaining technical issues in an understandable manner.
• Document all work performed, including site surveys, installations, and repairs, in the company's service management system.

Requirements

• NTC 3 or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field.
• Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience as a telecoms technician or in a similar field service role.
• Proficiency in installing and troubleshooting various telecommunications technologies, including ADSL, VDSL, and Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH).
• Good understanding of network fundamentals, including TCP/IP, LAN/WAN concepts.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
• Valid driver's license and a willingness to travel within the George area and surrounding regions.
