About the Role

Our client, a prominent telecommunications service provider, is seeking a dedicated Telecom Network Operations Specialist to join their team in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal . This role is integral to the day-to-day functioning and performance of our extensive network infrastructure. The ideal candidate will be responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and troubleshooting network issues to ensure maximum uptime and service quality. You will work closely with the network operations center (NOC) and field support teams to address incidents, perform routine maintenance, and contribute to network stability and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor network performance and status using various management tools and systems.
• Respond to network alarms and incidents, performing initial diagnostics and troubleshooting.
• Escalate complex issues to senior engineers or specialized teams as necessary.
• Perform routine maintenance tasks, including software updates and configuration backups.
• Document network events, troubleshooting steps, and resolutions accurately.
• Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless network operations.
• Assist in the implementation of minor network changes and configuration updates.
• Identify potential network issues and proactively recommend preventative measures.
• Participate in on-call rotation schedules to provide 24/7 support.

Requirements

• National Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications, IT, or a related field.
• 1-3 years of experience in telecommunications network operations or a similar technical support role.
• Familiarity with telecommunications network concepts and protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP).
• Experience with network monitoring tools is advantageous.
• Basic understanding of routing and switching principles.
