Placements24 is seeking a seasoned Lead Telecommunications Infrastructure Engineer to head a team of engineers in Randburg, Gauteng. You will oversee design, implementation, and maintenance of core telecom infrastructure, ensuring scalable, secure, and reliable networks while aligning with business goals.

The role combines hands-on leadership with strategic planning in a hybrid work arrangement, with on-site presence required and flexible remote options.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications, or related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in telecommunications infrastructure engineering, with at least 2 years in a lead or supervisory role.
• Deep understanding of core network technologies, including IP networking, MPLS, BGP, and fiber optics.
• Proven experience with large-scale network design, deployment, and management.
• Expertise in network security principles and implementation.
• Strong leadership, team management, and project management skills.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and strategic thinking abilities.
• Exceptional communication and presentation skills.
• Experience with cloud networking and virtualized infrastructure is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of telecommunications infrastructure engineers.
• Oversee the design, development, and implementation of scalable and resilient network infrastructure.
• Manage the deployment and integration of new telecommunications technologies and services.
• Ensure the security, performance, and availability of the network infrastructure.
• Develop and enforce infrastructure standards, policies, and best practices.
• Troubleshoot complex network issues and provide technical leadership during outages.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align infrastructure strategy with business needs.
• Conduct performance analysis, capacity planning, and technology assessments.
• Manage vendor relationships and oversee procurement of network equipment and services.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the infrastructure engineering team.
