Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a qualified Substation Design Engineer to join our established engineering team in Kimberley, Northern Cape. You will design high-voltage substations, develop diagrams, and perform power system studies to ensure safe and reliable electrical infrastructure.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and at least 5 years of substation design experience, with proficiency in AutoCAD, ETAP, and PSCAD.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in the design of electrical substations.
• Proficiency in substation design software and power system analysis tools (AutoCAD, ETAP, PSCAD).
• Strong understanding of high-voltage equipment, protection schemes, and grounding principles.
• Knowledge of relevant national and international electrical engineering standards.
• Excellent communication, teamwork, and project management skills.

Responsibilities

• Design high-voltage substations, including switchyards, control buildings, and grounding systems.
• Develop single-line diagrams, schematics, and equipment specifications for substation components.
• Perform power system studies, such as load flow, short-circuit analysis, and protection coordination.
• Ensure designs comply with all relevant industry standards, codes, and regulations (SANS, IEC).
• Collaborate with project managers, construction teams, and clients throughout the project lifecycle.
• Conduct site visits for design verification, construction support, and commissioning activities.
