Job summary

HandPicked Recruitment in Pretoria is seeking a Stores Supervisor to lead the stores team and manage stock, stock transactions and ERP data. You will ensure receiving, binning, and storage are accurate, and drive stock control and inventory integrity.

The role requires strong leadership, excellent communication, and the ability to work under pressure to meet operational requirements. A Code 8 driver’s licence is essential, with a qualification in a technical environment preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3–5 years in a supervisory stores/warehouse role.
• Proven experience leading a team and managing stock.
• Experience with stock transactions and stock control.
• Familiarity with MRP/ERP systems and data entry accuracy.
• Proficient in MS Office and general computer literacy.
• Industry background in manufacturing or engineering is advantageous.
• Strong organisational, administrative, and communication skills.
• Able to enforce procedures and maintain discipline.
• Capable of working under pressure to meet operations targets.
• Valid Code 8 driver’s license is required.

Responsibilities

• Supervise the Stores team including Clerks and Forklift Driver.
• Manage day-to-day operations of the stores department.
• Control stock and all related stock transactions.
• Maintain correct stock levels and ensure stock accuracy.
• Ensure accurate data capture on the MRP/ERP system.
• Manage receiving, issuing, identification, binning and storage.
• Keep inventory records and perform stock counts/reconciliations.
• Coordinate transfer and shipping of materials.
• Maintain orderly stores area and good housekeeping.
• Build a disciplined team and manage employee performance.
• Identify operational and stock risks and report to management.
• Implement stores procedures and improve processes.
• Enforce company policies and rules.
• Develop performance measures for the stores dept.
• Provide operational assistance during busy periods or staff shortages.
• Make independent decisions on stock management within scope.

Minimum requirements

• Previous experience in a Stores Supervisor, Stores Manager, Warehouse Supervisor or similar supervisory role.
• Proven experience managing and supervising a team.
• Previous experience managing stock and stock transactions.
• Experience working with an MRP/ERP system.
• Computer literate with good Microsoft Office skills.
• Manufacturing, fabrication, engineering or a similar technical environment would be highly advantageous.
• Strong stock control and inventory management experience.
• Excellent organisational and administrative skills.
• Strong decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Good interpersonal and people management skills.
• Ability to maintain discipline and enforce company procedures.

Duties will be, but are not limited to

• Supervise and manage the Stores team, including Stores Clerks and Forklift Driver.
• Manage the day-to-day operations of the stores department.
• Manage stock and all related stock transactions.
• Maintain correct stock levels and ensure stock accuracy.
• Ensure the integrity and accuracy of information captured on the MRP/ERP system.
• Ensure the correct receiving, issuing, identification, binning and storage of materials.
• Maintain accurate inventory records and conduct stock counts and reconciliations as required.
• Coordinate the transfer and shipping of materials.
• Maintain good housekeeping and an organised stores environment.
• Build and maintain a strong, functional and disciplined team.
• Manage employee performance and ensure adherence to company procedures and standards.
• Identify and highlight operational and stock-related risks to management.
• Implement and improve relevant stores procedures and processes.
• Enforce company policies, procedures, standards and rules.
• Develop and maintain appropriate performance measures for the stores department.
• Assist operationally when required, particularly during busy periods or when additional support is needed.
• Make independent decisions regarding the management and control of stock within the scope of the position.
