Hire Overseas seeks a Staff Accountant to run the monthly accounting cycle for a portfolio of small clients, from payroll to reconciled books, management reports, VAT and payroll returns. You will document steps and decisions to train an AI accounting system, designing workflows beyond routine month-end tasks.

The role is long-term and permanent, with a focus on building teachable processes and working directly with the founder and an AI partner on the frontier of AI in accounting.

Qualifications

• Candidate has a BCom in Accounting or an equivalent credential.
• 0–2 years experience in an accounting practice or finance team, including completed articles or a learnership in progress.
• Hands-on month-end experience including capture, bank reconciliations, journals, and management reports.
• Working knowledge of SA VAT, PAYE, SDL, UIF, EMP201 and VAT201 returns.
• Confident with double-entry accounting and able to explain reconciling issues.
• Strong Excel skills (lookups, pivots, cleaning CSVs).
• Detail-oriented, deadline-driven, and capable of clear written English.
• Genuine interest in AI and breaking work into teachable steps; comfortable with AI models.

Responsabilités

• Oversee monthly accounting cycle for simulated client portfolio from payroll to reconciled books and management reports.
• Prepare EMP201, VAT201 and payroll payments, ensuring compliance.
• Capture and code transactions, post journals, and reconcile bank accounts.
• Draft monthly management reports including income statement and balance sheet with commentary.
• Build high-quality training data by documenting steps and decisions for AI learning.
