Job summary

Hire Overseas is seeking a Staff Accountant to run the monthly accounting cycle for a portfolio of small, owner-managed clients, from payroll and monthly packs to reconciled books, the management report, and VAT and payroll returns. This role will help design AI workflows for learning from real accounting work.

You will document steps and decisions so an AI system can learn, test monthly workflows, and shape how AI assists accountants on a permanent basis.

Qualifications

• Hands-on month-end experience with capture, bank reconciliations, journals and reports.
• Working knowledge of SA VAT, PAYE, SDL and UIF and EMP201/VAT201 returns.
• Double-entry bookkeeping and ability to explain bank recon issues.
• Strong Excel skills with lookups, pivot tables and CSV filing.
• Clear written communication for client requests and reviews.

Responsibilities

• Run the monthly accounting cycle for a portfolio of small clients.
• Process payroll, EMP201, VAT201, and prepare management reports.
• Capture and code transactions, post journals, and reconcile ledgers.
• Draft the monthly management report with commentary.
• Document steps and decisions for AI workflow learning.
