Job summary

Overseas in Cape Town seeks a meticulous Staff Accountant to run the monthly accounting cycle for a portfolio of small owner-managed clients. You will handle payroll, VAT and the management pack and also document workflows for an AI accounting system.

This long-term, permanent role offers 100% remote work and collaboration with the founder and an AI partner to shape how accounting is taught to machines.

Qualifications

• Hands-on month-end experience with payroll, VAT and management reporting.
• Working knowledge of South African VAT, PAYE, SDL and UIF.
• Detail-oriented with strong spreadsheet skills and deadlines.
• Clear written English for client requests and review responses.

Responsibilities

• Run the monthly accounting cycle for a portfolio of small clients.
• Capture, code, reconcile bank and card transactions and prepare journals.
• Draft the monthly management report and VAT201/EMP201 returns.
• Document steps and decisions for AI training and workflow design.
• Close month after AI partner review and finalize files.
