Job summary

Valterra Platinum invites applications for a Contractor Management Specialist to drive governance and cost control across Group Smelters. You will oversee contractor performance, data integrity, budget tracking and reporting to support safe, compliant and efficient operations.

The role requires 4+ years in contractor governance within mining or heavy industry, strong stakeholder engagement, and a proactive approach to risk management.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 4 years’ experience in contractor performance management, cost control, and governance within mining, refining, or heavy industry.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Contractor Management Process across designated sites, ensuring timelines, standards and governance requirements are met.
• Utilize the Contractor Management System with focus on data integrity and reporting accuracy.
• Monitor contractor performance metrics (headcount, compliance, risk) and drive improvements.
• Verify scope from engineering and commercial perspectives to embed quality in tendering, execution and close-out.
• Maintain contractor assurance framework, conduct compliance checks and ensure regulatory alignment.
• Track expenditure vs approved budgets and escalate out-of-budget requests per governance.
• Prepare reports on cost, schedule adherence and quality outcomes for decision‑making.
• Coordinate with Commercial, Supply Chain, SHE, and People & Organisation teams to support priorities.
• Support contractor feedback mechanisms and address suggestions and complaints effectively.
• Identify scope consolidation opportunities within DOA requirements to boost efficiency.
• Provide guidance on SoW development with risk, SHE and KPIs incorporated.

Job Description

• Create a safety culture through productive and authorized operational systems/processes that allow all employees (including contracting partners) to provide their outputs in a risk-controlled environment. Oversee consistent application of Safety & Health principles in all discipline interactions and take personal responsibility for safety of self and others to ensure zero harm and elimination of fatalities.

Performance and Delivery

• Lead the implementation of the Contractor Management Process across designated sites, ensuring adherence to timelines, standards, and governance requirements.


• Ensure effective utilization of the Contractor Management System, maintaining data integrity and accuracy to support compliance and reporting.


• Monitor and report contractor performance metrics, including headcount, compliance, and risk indicators, and support improvement initiatives to address gaps.


• Verify contractor scope from engineering and commercial perspectives, ensuring quality standards are embedded throughout tendering, execution, and close-out phases.


• Maintain the contractor assurance framework, conduct compliance checks, and ensure adherence to legal, regulatory, and internal standards.


• Track and monitor expenditure against approved budgets and elevate out-of-budget requests for review and approval in line with governance requirements.


• Compile and analyse contractor performance data (cost, schedule adherence, quality outcomes) and prepare accurate reports to inform decision‑making.


• Coordinate with key stakeholders, including Commercial, Supply Chain, SHE, and People & Organisation teams, to ensure contractor performance supports business priorities.


• Support the contractor feedback process, ensuring mechanisms are in place to address suggestions, complaints, and recommendations effectively.


• Identify opportunities for scope consolidation, ensuring alignment with Delegation of Authority (DOA) requirements to optimise efficiency.


• Provide guidance on Scope of Work (SoW) development, ensuring risk assessments, SHE and Social Performance requirements, and KPIs are incorporated before submission.

People & Teams

This role is at a GBF 6/11 level reporting to the Senior Commercial Manager

Qualifications

• Relevant technical Tertiary Financial/Human Resource qualification

Experience, Knowledge And Skills

• A minimum of 4 years’ experience, ideally 4 - 7 years, in contractor performance management, cost control, and governance within mining, refining, or heavy industry environments.


• Technical knowledge(experience) required for role:
