Job summary

Pezula Nature Retreat in Knysna seeks a hands-on Spa Manager to lead the on-site team and ensure smooth operation of the spa, from treatments to guest care and facility standards.

You will develop therapists, supervise daily operations, manage stock and budgets, and partner with hotel management to enhance guest experiences and spa profitability. This role requires strong leadership and hospitality experience and a proven ability to drive service quality and revenue.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 or equivalent.
• Beauty Therapy Diploma (CIDESCO/SAAHSP/ITEC).
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in the spa/beauty industry.
• Minimum 5 years’ supervisory/management experience.
• Hospitality spa management experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of spa treatments and products.
• Confident, hands-on leadership with team accountability.
• Excellent communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.
• Computer literacy; ESP/Opera or similar systems advantageous.
• Commercial awareness with ability to manage targets, reporting, stock and budgets.
• Willingness to work hospitality hours, including weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor and support the spa therapist team in daily responsibilities.
• Conduct probation reviews, performance discussions and skills development planning.
• Ensure all treatments and protocols meet Pezula standards.
• Oversee presentation, cleanliness and readiness of treatment rooms and facilities.
• Maintain guest treatment records and handle confidential information.
• Manage spa administration including SOPs, stock control, ordering and maintenance.
• Prepare staff rosters, monitor attendance and coordinate HR matters.
• Assist guests with treatment recommendations, skincare advice and aftercare.
• Drive bookings, retail sales and revenue through coaching and targets.
• Monitor treatment utilisation, retail conversion and guest feedback.
• Stay informed on industry trends and new treatment developments.
• Liaise with suppliers regarding product training, incentives and stock.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, hygiene and regulations.
• Support budgeting and cost-control initiatives for profitability.
• Collaborate with hotel management to enhance guest stays.

Spa Manager – Pezula Nature Retreat

This full-time position is based at Pezula Nature Retreat in Knysna.

The Role

As Spa Manager at Pezula Nature Retreat, you’ll take full responsibility for the smooth and professional running of the Spa. You’ll lead the on-site team, ensuring treatments run on time, service standards remain consistently high and guests receive attentive, personalised care.

You’ll oversee daily operations, guide and develop your therapists and maintain high standards across treatment rooms and wellness facilities. The role requires a confident, hands‑on manager who understands the expectations of a hospitality environment and can balance exceptional guest care with operational efficiency and commercial performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor and support the spa therapist team in their daily responsibilities.
• Conduct probation reviews, performance discussions and skills development planning.
• Ensure all treatments and protocols meet Pezula Nature Retreat standards.
• Oversee the presentation, cleanliness and operational readiness of treatment rooms and wellness facilities.
• Maintain accurate guest treatment records and manage confidential information responsibly.
• Manage spa administration, including SOP updates, stock control, ordering and equipment maintenance.
• Prepare staff rosters, monitor attendance and coordinate employee matters with HR.
• Assist guests with treatment recommendations, skincare advice and aftercare guidance.
• Drive treatment bookings, retail sales and revenue through team coaching and structured targets.
• Monitor and report on treatment utilisation, retail conversion, guest feedback and monthly revenue.
• Stay informed on industry trends, competitor offerings and new treatment developments.
• Liaise with suppliers regarding product training, incentives and stock availability.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, hygiene and operational regulations.
• Support budgeting, cost control and initiatives that improve spa profitability.
• Work closely with the hotel management team to ensure the Spa contributes positively to the overall guest stay.

What We’re Looking For

• Grade 12 or equivalent.
• Beauty Therapy Diploma, preferably CIDESCO, SAAHSP or ITEC.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in the spa or beauty industry.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in a supervisory or management role.
• Previous management experience within a hotel or hospitality spa strongly preferred.
• Strong knowledge of spa treatments, skincare and professional product houses.
• Confident, hands‑on leadership with the ability to motivate, develop and hold a team accountable.
• Excellent communication, organisational and problem‑solving skills.
• Computer literacy; ESP, Opera or similar spa and booking systems advantageous.
• Commercial awareness with the ability to manage targets, reporting, stock and budgets.
• Willingness to work hospitality‑based hours, including weekends, public holidays and peak periods.
• High attention to detail, professional presentation and reliable operational follow‑through.
