Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an experienced Telecommunications Network Engineer to join our client’s core operations in Centurion, Gauteng. You will design, deploy, and maintain robust LAN/WAN and wireless networks, ensuring high availability, performance, and security for voice, data and internet services.

The role requires 7+ years of telecom networking experience, expertise in TCP/IP, BGP/OSPF, VPNs, and hands-on hardware from Cisco or Juniper.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications, or a related field.
Minimum of 7 years of experience in telecommunications network engineering.
In-depth knowledge of TCP/IP, routing protocols (BGP, OSPF), switching, and VPN technologies.
Hands-on experience with network hardware from vendors such as Cisco, Juniper, or similar.
Proficiency in network monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Nagios).
Experience with wireless networking technologies (Wi-Fi, cellular).
Strong understanding of network security principles and practices.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
Relevant certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, or JNCIE are highly desirable.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, demanding environment within Centurion.

Responsibilities

Design, configure, and deploy scalable telecommunications networks, including LAN, WAN, and wireless technologies.
Monitor network performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement solutions to optimize speed and reliability.
Perform regular maintenance, upgrades, and patching of network hardware and software.
Troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues, ensuring minimal downtime and service disruption.
Implement and maintain network security measures, including firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion detection systems.
Develop and document network configurations, procedures, and best practices.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to plan and execute network projects.
Stay current with emerging telecommunications technologies and industry trends.
Provide technical support and guidance to junior network staff.
Ensure network infrastructure complies with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
