Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Telecommunications Infrastructure Technician to join their client in Polokwane, Limpopo. The role covers hands-on fiber, copper, and wireless deployment, maintenance, and fault finding to ensure reliable regional connectivity.

Hybrid work enables field visits and remote tasks; you’ll read schematics, perform site surveys, document work, and mentor junior technicians, with 5+ years in telecom infrastructure preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of experience in telecommunications infrastructure installation and maintenance.
• Experience with fiber optic splicing, termination, and testing (OTDR, power meters).
• Copper cabling installation, termination, and testing experience.
• Experience with network equipment installation (routers, switches, radios).
• Ability to read and interpret technical documentation.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel within Polokwane region.
• Safety-focused with ability to work at heights or in confined spaces.
• Relevant technical certifications (Fiber Optics, BICSI) are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Install, terminate, test, and repair fiber optic and copper cabling infrastructure.
• Commission and maintain telecommunications equipment, including routers, switches, and base stations.
• Troubleshoot network issues, diagnose faults, and implement effective solutions.
• Perform site surveys and infrastructure assessments.
• Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics.
• Ensure all work is performed to industry standards and company specifications.
• Maintain accurate documentation of network infrastructure and work performed.
• Adhere to all safety regulations and protocols, especially when working at heights or in confined spaces.
• Provide technical support and guidance to junior technicians.
• Respond to emergency service calls as needed.
