Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Telecommunications Field Engineer to join our client in Bloemfontein. This role covers installation, maintenance, and repair of telecom equipment across multiple sites, blending on-site fieldwork with some remote planning tasks.

You will configure base stations, test networks, troubleshoot complex issues, perform site surveys, and document activities for compliance and reporting. A Diploma or relevant certification and 5+ years of field experience are required.

Qualifications

• Diploma or certification in Telecommunications or related field.
• Minimum 5+ years as a Field Engineer/Technician in telecoms.
• Strong knowledge of LTE, 3G, 2G networks and hardware.
• Experience with OTDRs, spectrum analyzers and signal generators.
• Experience with fiber optic installation and troubleshooting.
• Proficient in IP networking, routing, and switching; able to read drawings and schematics.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel within service area.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, test, and maintain telecom equipment across sites.
• Perform routine maintenance and preventative upkeep on network infrastructure.
• Troubleshoot hardware/software issues and implement solutions.
• Respond to service calls and outages to minimize downtime.
• Conduct site surveys and prepare detailed reports.
• Ensure safety regulations and company standards are followed.
• Collaborate with teams to resolve escalated issues.
• Maintain records of field activities, inventory, and status.
• Provide guidance to junior technicians and mentor peers.
• Identify opportunities for network improvement and efficiency gains.
