About the Role

Our client, a premier venue operator within the Arts & Entertainment sector, is seeking a highly competent Senior Technical Director to oversee all technical operations at their flagship venue. This pivotal role, based in Upington, Northern Cape, demands extensive experience in managing diverse technical systems, including sound, lighting, staging, AV, and rigging for live performances and events. You will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of technical execution, safety, and equipment maintenance. Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage all technical departments, including sound, lighting, staging, AV, and automation, for live events and performances.
• Develop and implement technical plans, budgets, and staffing strategies for venue operations and specific productions.
• Ensure the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and upgrade of all venue technical equipment.
• Oversee the technical load-in, setup, operation, and load-out of all events, ensuring adherence to schedules and quality standards.
• Manage relationships with external technical vendors, contractors, and equipment suppliers.
• Conduct regular technical assessments, risk analyses, and safety training for technical staff.
• Collaborate with event promoters, artists, and production managers to understand and meet their technical requirements.
• Stay current with emerging technologies and best practices in live event production and venue operations within the Arts & Entertainment industry.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues that may arise during events in Upington, Northern Cape.

Requirements

• A minimum of 7 years of experience in technical direction or a senior technical management role, preferably within live entertainment venues or event production companies.
• Extensive knowledge of sound, lighting, AV, rigging, and stage management systems.
• Proven track record of managing technical teams, budgets, and complex production schedules.
• Strong understanding of health and safety regulations pertinent to live event production.
• Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and communication skills.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and production plans.
• Experience with event booking systems and venue management software is a plus.
• Relevant degree or diploma in Technical Theatre, Event Management, Engineering, or a related field is advantageous.
