Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Subsurface Geologist for our East London team in South Africa. The role focuses on understanding the geological framework, influencing exploration strategies, and optimizing field development through seismic interpretation and static modeling.

You will build subsurface models, assess volumes, and collaborate with reservoir engineers and geophysicists to support resource evaluation and production optimization in the Eastern Cape region.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or Ph.D. in Geology or related earth science discipline.
• 8+ years of experience in subsurface geology, focusing on exploration or development geology.
• Proficiency in geological modeling software (e.g., Petrel, SKUA-GOCAD).
• Strong understanding of structural geology, stratigraphy, and sedimentology.
• Experience with seismic interpretation and well log analysis techniques.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Interpret 3D seismic data, well logs, and core data to delineate geological structures and stratigraphy.
• Build and refine static subsurface geological models incorporating all available subsurface data.
• Perform volumetric and risk assessments for prospects and existing fields.

This role is critical for understanding the geological framework of our operational areas, influencing exploration strategies, and optimizing field development. You will be responsible for interpreting seismic data, building subsurface models, and performing geological assessments to support resource evaluation and production enhancement. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in subsurface characterization and a strong understanding of structural and stratigraphic geology, contributing expertise to projects in the Eastern Cape region.
