Job summary

Placements24 in George, Western Cape, seeks a Lead Structural Engineer to head design for bridges, buildings and civil infrastructure, guiding junior engineers and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safety and performance.

The candidate must be Pr Eng with ECSA, hold a Master’s in Structural Engineering, and bring 10+ years’ experience (3+ in leadership), plus expertise in ETABS, SAP2000 or Prokon and knowledge of SANS and local regulations.

Qualifications

• Pr Eng registration with ECSA is mandatory.
• Master's degree in Structural Engineering or related field.
• 10+ years of progressive structural engineering experience, 3+ in lead/supervisory role.
• Extensive experience with ETABS, SAP2000, Prokon or similar.
• Strong knowledge of concrete, steel, and masonry design.
• Familiarity with SANS and relevant building regulations.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and manage engineering teams effectively.
• Strong communication and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the structural design and analysis for major infrastructure projects.
• Oversee and mentor a team of structural engineers and technicians.
• Develop conceptual designs, detailed engineering drawings, and specifications.
• Perform complex structural calculations and simulations using advanced software.
• Ensure designs comply with all relevant South African building codes and standards.
• Review and approve structural drawings and calculations prepared by team members.
• Collaborate with architects, civil engineers, and other project stakeholders.
• Conduct site visits for inspections and to address structural issues during construction.
• Prepare technical reports and presentations for clients and project meetings.
• Stay abreast of the latest advancements in structural engineering technology and best practices.
