Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Senior Engineer (Structural) in Gauteng, South Africa, to lead design teams and deliver high-quality structural outputs. You will mentor junior staff, coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams, and lead technically on projects while engaging with clients and BIM processes for efficient design delivery.

The role requires a degree in Structural Civil Engineering, 8+ years of post-qualification experience, and Pr.Eng registration with ECSA.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering (Structural), preferably M.Eng or MSc.Eng.
• At least 8 years’ experience post obtaining qualification.
• Professionally registered with ECSA as Pr.Eng. for at least 3 years.
• Ability to develop key and trusted client relationships that can lead to new business.
• Demonstrated collaborative skills, both internally and externally.
• Ability to advise on complex matters to non-specialists.
• Superior interpersonal and communication skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work under pressure and understand the importance of delivery and client satisfaction
• Strong analytical, literacy and numerical skills
• Ability to function with minimal supervision
• Ability to delegate tasks and effectively supervise others
• Experience with American and/or European design codes preferable

Responsibilities

• Lead a design team of junior and mid-level Structures staff and provide mentorship, direction, and motivation.
• Coordinate with other disciplines to ensure fully coordinated design deliverables and support construction supervision teams.
• Bring project teams together to achieve shared goals and exceed individual contributions.
• Provide coaching and guidance to less experienced staff to raise technical competence.
• Lead technically on projects, supporting Project Managers and teams to deliver within scope, budget and schedule.
• Interface with clients on schedules, meetings, and issues and manage client expectations.
• Apply knowledge of BIM tools (Autodesk Revit) and design programs for efficient output.
• Adhere to design procedures to ensure high-quality, cost-effective work.
• Attend planning, design and site meetings and perform site inspections.
• Ensure designs comply with project requirements and internal standards, delivering timely outputs.
