Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Senior Engineer in Cape Town to lead structural design efforts on multidisciplinary projects. You will mentor junior engineers, manage design development and reviews, and deliver high-quality outputs.

The role requires hands-on design and strong leadership in a BIM-enabled environment. You will coordinate with other disciplines, engage with clients, and ensure compliance with international design codes.

Qualifications

Degree in Civil Engineering (Structural) required.
At least 8 years’ post-qualification experience.
Registered with ECSA as Pr.Eng for at least 3 years preferred.
Ability to develop key client relationships leading to new business.
Strong collaboration and communication skills, both internally and with clients.
Ability to advise on complex matters to non‑specialists.

Responsibilities

Lead a design team of junior and mid-level Structures staff, providing mentorship and direction.
Coordinate with other disciplines to deliver fully coordinated designs.
Provide coaching to less experienced staff to raise technical competence.
Lead technical aspects of projects, ensuring scope, budget, and timelines are met.
Interface with clients on schedules, meetings, and issues; manage client expectations.
