Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Senior Engineer to lead structural design activities in Cape Town. You will guide a team of junior and mid-level engineers, perform hands-on design, and ensure high-quality outputs for multidisciplinary BIM projects using Revit and related tools.

The role demands strong leadership, excellent communication, and the ability to manage multiple tasks with tight timelines while maintaining client satisfaction and safety compliance.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering (Structural), preferably M.Eng or MSc.Eng.
• At least 8 years’ experience post obtaining qualification.
• Professionally registered with ECSA as Pr.Eng. for at least 3 years.
• Ability to develop key and trusted client relationships that can lead to new business.
• Demonstrated collaborative skills, both internally and externally.
• Ability to advise on complex matters to non-specialists.
• Superior interpersonal and communication skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work under pressure and understand the importance of delivery and client satisfaction
• Strong analytical, literacy and numerical skills
• Ability to function with minimal supervision
• Ability to delegate tasks and effectively supervise others
• Experience with American and/or European design codes preferable

Responsibilities

• Lead a design team of junior and mid-level Structures staff and provide mentorship, direction, and motivation on a daily basis and in a strategic manner to ensure AECOM remains an employer of choice for structural skills.
• Coordinate with other disciplines to ensure fully coordinated deliverables and support construction supervision teams.
• Bring project teams together to achieve shared goals and exceed individual contributions.
• Maintain high standards in all design outputs and ensure safety and quality.
• Provide coaching to less experienced staff to increase technical competence and knowledge of systems.
