Placements24 is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer for a prominent civil engineering firm in Johannesburg, Gauteng. The role focuses on the design, development, and execution of major bridge projects, ensuring safety and compliance with SANS and international codes.

You will lead design efforts, perform in-depth analysis with industry software, and guide junior staff while coordinating with project teams across sites in Johannesburg and surrounding areas.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited institution.
• Professional registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineer (Pr Eng).
• Minimum 8 years progressive structural engineering experience, with 5+ years on bridges.

Responsibilities

• Lead the structural design of bridge projects from concept to construction documentation.
• Perform advanced structural analysis using SAP2000/ETABS/MIDAS Civil to assess capacities and failure modes.
• Prepare design reports, specs, and drawings for foundations, superstructures, and abutments.

• Conduct in-depth structural analysis and modelling using advanced software (e.g., SAP2000, ETABS, MIDAS Civil) to assess load capacities, stress distribution, and potential failure modes.


• Prepare detailed design reports, technical specifications, and construction drawings for bridge structures, including foundations, superstructures, and abutments.


• Provide expert technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineering staff, fostering their professional development and ensuring high-quality output.


• Collaborate closely with project managers, architects, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless project delivery and resolve technical challenges effectively.


• Perform site inspections and investigations to assess existing structures, monitor construction progress, and verify compliance with design specifications in **Johannesburg** and surrounding areas.


• Review and approve shop drawings, material submittals, and technical queries from contractors.


• Contribute to tender preparation by providing technical input and cost estimations for structural works.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited institution.


• Professional registration with ECSA (Engineering Council of South Africa) as a Professional Engineer (Pr Eng).


• A minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in structural engineering, with at least 5 years specifically focused on bridge design and construction.


• Proven expertise in structural analysis software and CAD tools (AutoCAD, Civil 3D).


• Thorough understanding of relevant building codes, SANS standards, and international design principles for bridges.
