Placements24 has an opportunity for a Senior Site Manager to lead a flagship civil engineering project in Pietermaritzburg. You will oversee day-to-day site operations, coordinate engineers, supervisors, subcontractors and laborers, and ensure strict adherence to plans, timelines and budgets.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent) with 10+ years of progressive site management experience on major projects, and a strong focus on safety and quality.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or equivalent with professional registration preferred.
• Minimum 10 years’ progressive site management experience on civil projects.
• Proven track record managing large-scale, multi-million Rand budgets.
• Strong knowledge of construction methods, codes, safety, and PM principles.
• Excellent leadership, communication and team management skills.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day operations on the construction site ensuring adherence to plans and timelines.
• Coordinate site personnel including engineers, supervisors, subcontractors and laborers.
• Enforce health and safety protocols and conduct regular site inspections.

Key Responsibilities

• Implement and enforce rigorous health and safety protocols, conducting regular site inspections and risk assessments to maintain a safe working environment.
• Monitor project progress, identify potential delays or issues, and implement corrective actions to keep the project on schedule and within budget.
• Manage procurement and delivery of materials, equipment, and resources, ensuring cost-effectiveness and availability.
• Maintain detailed site logs, progress reports, and other necessary documentation for project management and client updates.
• Liaise effectively with clients, consultants, local authorities, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth project progression and compliance.
• Ensure the quality of workmanship meets the highest standards, conducting quality control checks and addressing any deficiencies promptly.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field, or equivalent professional qualification.
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in site management within the construction industry, with a strong emphasis on civil engineering projects.
• Demonstrable experience in managing large-scale projects with multi-million Rand budgets.
• In-depth knowledge of construction methodologies, building codes, safety regulations, and project management principles.
• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and manage diverse teams.
• Proficiency in project management software and relevant technical tools.
• Proven ability to problem-solve effectively and make critical decisions under pressure.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel within the Pietermaritzburg region as required.
