About the Role

Our client, a leading multidisciplinary engineering consultancy, is seeking a highly competent Senior Roads Design Engineer to join their growing team in Vereeniging, Gauteng . This role is essential for the design and planning of a wide array of transportation infrastructure projects, including national roads, provincial routes, and urban arterials. You will lead design teams, undertake complex geometric design, traffic management planning, and ensure adherence to the highest engineering standards and client requirements. We are looking for an individual with extensive experience in road design, strong technical skills, and proven project management capabilities. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the geometric design of new roads and upgrades, including interchanges, intersections, and alignment design.
• Conduct traffic analysis, capacity assessments, and develop traffic control strategies.
• Prepare detailed road design drawings, specifications, and tender documentation using industry-standard software.
• Manage road design projects from inception through to construction supervision.
• Ensure designs comply with the South African Road Design Manual (SARDM), geometric standards, and other relevant codes.
• Liaise with clients, provincial and municipal authorities, and other stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
• Mentor and guide junior engineers and technicians, fostering a high-performance team culture.
• Conduct site investigations and feasibility studies for road infrastructure projects.
• Oversee the preparation of environmental impact assessments and manage related approvals.
• Review and approve designs and technical reports generated by the team.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
• Professional registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) is mandatory.
• A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in road design and transportation engineering.
• Proven expertise in geometric road design, including horizontal and vertical alignment, cross-sections, and drainage.
• Proficiency in road design software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, Civil Designer, or similar, and traffic analysis software (e.g., VISSIM, SATURN).
• Strong understanding of traffic engineering principles and road construction methods.
• Excellent project management, leadership, and communication skills.
• Experience in managing project budgets and timelines effectively.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
• Experience in the Vereeniging or broader Gauteng region is a significant advantage.
