Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a highly skilled Data Scientist for a fully remote role focused on mining data analytics. You will apply advanced statistics, ML, and data mining to derive actionable insights and predictive models for equipment and production in resource industries.

You will work with geologists, engineers, and analysts, building dashboards, wrangling data, and documenting methodologies while staying current with ML advances. Remote-first setup offers collaboration across time zones.

Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in a quantitative field such as CS, Statistics, Mathematics, or Data Science.
• 5+ years of professional data science experience, preferably in mining or related industries.
• Strong programming skills in Python and/or R.
• Proficiency in SQL and relational databases.
• Experience with big data tech (Spark/Hadoop) and cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP).
• Solid grounding in statistical modeling, ML algorithms, and experimental design.
• Excellent problem solving, communication, and remote collaboration skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects independently in a distributed team.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy machine learning models to address business challenges.
• Analyze large, complex datasets to identify trends and insights for mining operations.
• Develop predictive models for equipment failure, production output, and resource grades.
• Create data visualizations and dashboards to communicate findings.
• Collaborate with domain experts to define analytical approaches and data sources.
• Data wrangling, cleaning, and feature engineering for modeling readiness.
• Stay updated with advances in data science, ML, and AI.
• Document methodologies, models, and results; contribute to code reviews.
