Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates, budgets and bills of quantities for high-rise projects.

About the Role

Our client, a prominent construction company with a specialization in large-scale high-rise buildings, is seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their team in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal. This critical role involves managing all commercial aspects of construction projects, from initial cost estimation and budgeting through to final account settlement. You will play a key part in ensuring the financial viability and profitability of projects by controlling costs and managing contracts effectively. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in managing complex bills of quantities, tendering processes, and subcontractor agreements within the high-rise construction sector. This hybrid position requires a blend of detailed site-based measurement and analysis, coupled with office-based financial management and reporting. You will be instrumental in upholding our client's reputation for delivering projects on time and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates, budgets, and bills of quantities for high-rise construction projects.
• Manage the tendering process, including procurement, negotiation, and placement of subcontracts.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics, or a related field.
• Professional accreditation (e.g., SACQSP) is highly desirable.
• A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience as a Quantity Surveyor, with a significant focus on high-rise or large commercial building projects.
• In-depth knowledge of construction methods, materials, and industry pricing.
• Proficiency in quantity surveying software (e.g., WinQS, CCS Candy) and MS Excel.
• Strong understanding of various contract forms (e.g., JBCC, FIDIC).
• Excellent negotiation, analytical, and financial management skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites in and around Pietermaritzburg.
