Job summary

Capitec Bank Ltd. seeks a Senior Platform Engineer to reimagine software delivery from commit to production in an AI-first world.

You will extend the internal developer platform, automate friction, and build guardrails enabling 1,000+ engineers to move faster with reliable, scalable cloud-native pipelines. You will design infrastructure as code, optimize deployment pipelines, and mentor engineers while collaborating across GitHub, AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, and CI/CD.

Qualifications

• Deep experience in platform engineering, site reliability or DevOps.
• At least five years of hands-on experience working in cloud environments.
• Strong experience building infrastructure as code using Terraform, CloudFormation or similar.
• Solid experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins or GitHub Actions).
• Strong hands-on experience with containers and orchestration, particularly Kubernetes.
• Experience designing and operating cloud-native systems, including microservices and event-driven architectures.
• Strong scripting or programming capability (Python, Go, Bash, PowerShell).
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure, with relevant certifications.
• Strong understanding of networking, security, APIs, databases and distributed systems.
• Ability to clearly explain architecture decisions and the systems built.
• Experience leading or mentoring engineers.

Responsibilities

About this job:

Build the platform that powers engineering at scale

We're looking for a Senior Platform Engineer to help reimagine how software moves from commit to production in an AI-first world. Our focus is extending our Internal Developer Platform to support AI-generated software, removing bottlenecks that slow engineers down, and building the guardrails, automation and governance needed to safely accelerate delivery at scale. You'll be building platform capabilities that influence the day-to-day experience of 1,000+ engineers, shaping how software is built, tested, secured and released across the organisation.

Working across GitHub, Kubernetes, AWS, EKS, Terraform, GitOps and CI/CD, you'll help challenge traditional assumptions about software delivery and engineer the next generation of developer workflows. Many of today's delivery models were designed for a world where humans authored most of the code.

This role is for someone who enjoys building more than maintaining. Someone who can take an idea from concept to POC to production. Someone who sees friction, questions why it exists, and then automates it away.

About our team

We operate within a broader platform engineering function responsible for developer experience, Kubernetes and platform support. This role sits in the team focused on our internal developer platform, the tooling engineers use to provision infrastructure, build pipelines and deploy into our cloud environment. Our platform is used by multiple engineering teams across the business and is central to how we deliver software at scale. The team currently includes engineers across multiple seniority levels, and we are adding another senior engineer to strengthen our technical depth.

What you'll do

• We will rely on you to design and implement infrastructure using code, enabling consistent, repeatable and scalable environments across our cloud platform.
• We will expect you to build and optimise cloud-native deployment pipelines that support high-frequency, low-risk releases.
• We will look to you to enhance our internal developer platform, improving how engineers provision infrastructure and deploy services.
• We will count on you to troubleshoot complex platform and performance issues across distributed systems and lead root-cause investigations.
• We will expect you to contribute to architectural decisions across microservices, event-driven systems and cloud-native patterns.
• We will rely on you to mentor other engineers and raise the engineering standard across the team.
